Post #2342 chronicling my research for an upcoming Costa Rica trip…
Traveling to Costa Rica in May and have the following rough itinerary:
Arrive May 4 11:40am local time in San Jose (need to get to La Fortuna)
May 4 – 7 in La Fortuna (Arenal Backpackers Hostel, but can be convinced otherwise if people can vouch)
May 7 check out of La Fortuna lodging and travel to Manuel Antonio
May 7 – 9 in Manual Antonia (Selina Hostel…potentially)
May 9 need to check out of Manuel Antonia lodging as early as possible to travel back to San Jose for a 10:40am flight (I know, I know…tight)
I’d rather not spend a night in San Jose on May 8th just to wake up there for a flight, but appreciate it if that was going to be your recommendation.
I’ve looked into a some shuttles and was quoted some prices by SuperShuttleCR. $169 for private shuttles to La Fortuna and from Manual Antonia and $59/person for the leg between La Fortuna and MA on a shared shuttle. I made it clear I need to leave ASAP on May 9 to make it to the airport and they said the shuttle can pick us up at 530am to make it to SJO at around 830am…is this realistic? This is my biggest worry of the trip, every other leg is doable via shuttle. Originally I was planning on renting a car, but lately have been thinking that it might be more hassle than it is worth. The car rental would come in handy for that last leg (and be a bit cheaper than the prices quoted by SuperShuttleCR) because we can leave at any point in the early morning hours.
Given the above itinerary, I’d love some input if shuttle bus is indeed the way to go and which companies people have had success with (that also don’t break the bank).
