I will be in Bangkok to celebrate Songkran and have been thinking of flying to Myanmar (Yangon 2 days and Bagan 3 days) 15th – 22nd of April with my flight back home on the 23rd out of Bangkok. After doing much research, during this time, it would be nearly impossible to secure public transport by overnight bus/sleeper train to Bagan as the nearly the whole country shuts down. However, the only option is to take a flight from Yangon to Bagan which would be about $200 RT.
Would it be worth it to try to get to Bagan during this time? Funds aren’t too much of a concern but I would rather take a cheap sleeper bus/train rather than spend $200 for 3 days in Bagan.
Has anyone done the trip during their New Year and is there anything open during this time?
Maybe I should just go to Yangon for 3+ days instead?
I know this is all dependent on what I want to experience but thinking out loud or getting some different perspective always helps with decision making. TIA.
